The Maze Runner

 Maze Runner

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls. Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift. Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers. Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

The Scorch Trials

The Scorch Trials picks up where The Maze Runner left off. The Gladers have escaped the Maze, but now they face an even more treacherous challenge on the open roads of a devastated planet. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them. Can Thomas survive in such a violent world?

The Death Cure

Thomas knows that Wicked can’t be trusted, but they say the time for lies is over, that they’ve collected all they can from the Trials and now must rely on the Gladers, with full memories restored, to help them with their ultimate mission. It’s up to the Gladers to complete the blueprint for the cure to the Flare with a final voluntary test. What Wicked doesn’t know is that something’s happened that no Trial or Variable could have foreseen. Thomas has remembered far more than they think. And he knows that he can’t believe a word of what Wicked says. The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than Thomas could ever imagine. Will anyone survive the Death Cure?

The Kill Order

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth and mankind fell to disease.
The Kill Order is the story of that fall.
A prequel to the Maze Runner trilogy, The Kill Order has been in the works since the completion of The Maze Runner. The story of civilization’s fall was kept under wraps and is the explication of the events that began this bestselling series.

Delirium Series

Follows Lena and Alex, two teens battling against the controlling government that believes that love is a disease and forbids it from their community.

Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't

http://fp.umy.ac.id

Well, maybe this:
Have you ever read a book so beautiful it physically hurts? A book that has you
laughing one moment, crying the next? A book that makes you feel every single emotion the character does?

Delirium is that book.

As I read, I found my eyes were prickling with tears, even as I felt like smiling at some little thing in the plot. It's left me with an ache, a longing, a need for the next in the series. I have to know what happens.

Someone said that they mourned this book once they'd finished, and I finally
understand why.

I'm not sure how to explain everything Delirium made me feel. All I can say is that all the emotions Lena felt, I felt. And, more importantly, they all felt real, like they were my own.

The whole world is extraordinary: Love is a disease: amor delirium nervosa. It's something that has to be cured, eradicated: it's forbidden. Everything is set for you as well – the government decides everything. They choose, jobs, partners, whole lives, and you get no say. It's a horrible world. No love, parents without emotions, no love for their children, some even killing them. There are raids, regulators, phone taps, always searching for the same thing: sympathizers, Invalids, love. And worse: you're trapped. There's America, and then there's the Wilds, where sympathizers flee to, and Invalids live. And it's just the fact that being in love, having feelings, makes you an "Invalid" that gets to me. I said it before and I'll say it again: horrible.

And the characters were absolutely unforgettable. The book is told from Lena's
point of view, and I have to say the writing was beautiful. Lena started out as a good, perfect citizen, before slowly turning around into a rebel, breaking every rule. She was told from a young girl that without love, you'll be safe, there will be no pain, and she longed for the day she'd be cured. But then, she began to realize the truth, and I really liked seeing how love changed everything for her, how she grew as a character.

She's so strong and brave – especially compared to how she was at the beginning – and by the end I loved her. Her past was intriguing as well, and it was something that had weighed down on her for all her life. It was pure genius from Lauren Oliver how she let everything slowly unfold, and I didn't see any of it coming. The way Lena looks at everything was interesting as well. After all, in a world where 'love' is a killable offence; everything is completely different, and far more dangerous.

Alex... I fell in love with him. Of all the characters, he was the one that really jumped out at me. He was amazing, strong, beautiful, perfect. And his past was even more fascinating than Lena's was – so much so that I found myself racing to find out more about him – about everyone. The love between him and Lena was stunning and pure: real. The bond between them was just incredible, and so beautiful. I honestly believed in their love, unlike the romance in a lot of YA books nowadays.

I have to mention Lena's best-friend Hana: she was truly the best friend a girl could ever have. I loved her sense of humour, her bravery, her loyalty. She'd do anything for Hana, and was even better for it. I think she must have been the one that made me laugh most.

Delirium was another emotional-rollercoaster, and so compelling I was up until three-something in the morning just so I could get to the end and know what would happen. Plus, the whole world was amazing, and so imaginative it's untrue. A place without love? Who else has thought of that, who else has thought to use love as a disease? "The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it when you don't." No book I've ever read has spoken of love like that. It was so new, so unusual, so horrible, so real. I cried so much during this book; the writing was so full of emotions it was almost overwhelming, but in a good way. The pace is perfect, the suspense grew with every chapter, and I literally sped through the book at break-neck speed.

I must have felt everything possible reading Delirium: love, fear, devastating sadness, chills, shock, scenes that were so touching I know they're going to stay in my mind for a long time.

This whole book will stay with me, actually, and so will the characters. I'm praying for the next in the series, and am going to be counting down the days until it comes out. This is an amazing book that I honestly can't recommend enough. This is a book for a "Have To Read" list.

The Mortal Instrument Series

The Mortal Instruments is a series of six young adult fantasy novels written by Cassandra Clare, of which five have been published so far. The Mortal Instruments is chronologically the second series of a proposed five in The Shadowhunter Chronicles

http://fp.umy.ac.id

Clarissa "Clary" Adele Fray (also referred to as Fairchild and Morgenstern) is described to have long, curly red hair and bright green eyes. She is very small and thin and often viewed as younger than she actually is. Clary is an artist and in the first book, City of Bones, she believes she is a mundane, or a human without angelic powers. It is later revealed she is in fact a Shadowhunter, or a human with angelic qualities. Clary is described as being incredibly stubborn and often rushes into dangerous situations without thinking about the consequences. Her best friend in the series is Simon Lewis and she is dating Jace Lightwood. She is devastated by the fact that the guy she loves is actually her brother. But eventually she realizes that it is not true.

Jonathan Christopher "Jace" Lightwood (also been referred as Wayland, Morgenstern, and Herondale) is a Shadowhunter and described as being tall and muscular with scars across his golden skin from worn-out runes, or magical Marks. He has curly blond hair and golden eyes, and, like Clary, he is part angel. Jace is one of the best fighters the Nephilim have and is always ready to defend his family. Jace is often flirty and insensitive, and is described to have "pretend" arrogance. Throughout the books, Jace's family remains unknown. In City of Bones, he believes he is a Wayland but at the end of the book Valentine Morgenstern reveals to him that he is Jace's father. However, in City of Glass, Jace is told his father is actually Stephen Herondale. Throughout the book, Jace's last name remains uncertain, but in City of Glass, he decides that he wants to take the last name of his adoptive family, the Lightwoods.

Simon Lewis is relatively small with curly brown hair, brown eyes and glasses. He is often seen wearing T-shirts with gamer slogans. In City of Lost Souls, Simon describes himself as being "hipster" but his best friend, Clary, tells him he is a geek. Simon is the only character to begin his life as a mundane, but in City of Ashes he is transformed into a vampire. Simon is quirky and caring, often putting other people before himself. In City of Fallen Angels, Simon finds himself in a love triangle with the characters of Maia Roberts and Isabelle Lightwood; however, in City of Lost Souls it becomes apparent that he and Isabelle are a couple.

Isabelle "Izzy" Sophia Lightwood is a Shadowhunter; tall and thin, she has long black hair and dark brown eyes, and is often carrying her trademark gold electrum whip. Isabelle is described as being incredibly girly but with a fierce attitude. She is often considered flirty and never seems committed with relationships, although in City of Lost Souls, she admits to being in love with Simon Lewis.

Alexander "Alec" Gideon Lightwood is the oldest Lightwood Shadowhunter. Alec has floppy black hair and beautiful blue eyes. He is described as being quiet but protective of his younger siblings Isabelle and Max, the latter of whom dies in City of Glass. Alec believes he is in love with Jace in the first book, City of Bones, until he meets Magnus Bane and in City of Glass kisses him in front of his parents, confirming that he is gay. In City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls, Alec becomes insecure about his and Magnus's relationship because of Magnus's immortality. This insecurity leads him to consider turning Magnus mortal against his will, which causes Magnus to break up with him in City of Lost Souls.

Magnus Bane is the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Magnus is an 800-year-old warlock who appears 19. He is tall and thin with Asian features, jet black hair, and amber and green cat eyes. Magnus Bane is often described to wear glitter and throws countless parties. Magnus begins a relationship with Alec Lightwood, therefore he feels obliged to become the New York Shadowhunters pet warlock in order to impress Alec. Magnus appears in the prequel to The Mortal Instruments—The Infernal Devices—and there is a series of 10 short stories describing some of the events that occurred in Magnus Bane's long life titled The Bane Chronicles.

Valentine Morgenstern is described as having white hair and dark eyes. Valentine is evil and very manipulative. He was the former leader of 'The Circle' a group of Shadowhunters who despised Downworlders. Valentine was married to Clary's mother, Jocelyn, and they had two children: Jonathan and Clarissa. Valentine is believed to be dead in City of Bones but at the end the reader finds out he is alive and the father of Jace Wayland. In the following installment, City of Ashes, we discover that Valentine is stealing the Mortal Instruments in order to raise the angel Raziel. In City of Glass, Valentine's real son Jonathan, or Sebastian Verlac who he pretends to be in order to gain access into Idris and earn the Shadowhunters trust, shows up and we discover that Valentine fed demonic blood to Jocelyn when she was pregnant with Jonathan in order to create a new breed of "Dark" Shadowhunters which are more powerful than ordinary Shadowhunters. Valentine is killed by the angel Raziel after he raises him from Lake Lyn.Clarissa "Clary" Adele Fray (also referred to as Fairchild and Morgenstern) is described to have long, curly red hair and bright green eyes. Mahasiswa UMY Kritisi Media TV Lewat Buku

 Source: Okezone

Studi Banding Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta

Perpustakaan UMY kembali melakukan studi banding.

Lorien Legacies

The series follow the story of nine human-looking aliens brought to Earth when they were six years old. Their purpose is to grow into their powers and return to their planet, Lorien, and get it back from the evil Mogadorians. The teenagers have been protected by a charm, which only allows them to be killed in a set order and by non-gifted guardians called CĂȘpan.

Up to the beginning of the book six have survived and reached 15 years. As their powers, their Legacies, start to develop they can't stay hidden anymore

http://fp.umy.ac.id

Ten years ago, the Mogadorians, a race of violent, powerful beasts, completely obliterated the resources and people on the peaceful planet of Lorien. Nine children, members of the Garde, a race of supernaturally gifted Loriens, escaped to Earth. The nine were given a charm of protection and a number. The Mogadorians that hunt them can only kill them in numerical order. As each Lorien child is murdered, those that remain receive a scar around their ankle so they know how many are left. Number Four receives his third scar at a high school party and flees home to escape the area with his Keeper, Henri. Keepers are the adult guardians and mentors of the Garde.

Henri gives Number Four a new name, John Smith, as they make their way to Paradise, Ohio, the 22nd town they've hidden in during their time on Earth. On his first day at his new school, John meets Sarah Hart, and he immediately develops a crush on the beautiful and friendly girl. Unfortunately, that makes him the enemy of her former boyfriend, Mark James.

When Mark confronts John after class, John runs away, not because he fears the football player, but because he realizes that he is developing his Legacies, the supernatural powers that will help him defeat the Mogadorians. John hides in a dark room and waits for Henri to pick him up. John convinces Henri not to leave Paradise because of the incident at school, and the two begin training so that he can develop his powers.

Although Mark continues to harass John, the Lorien develops a relationship with Sarah and another boy, Sam. Sam's father disappeared when he was young, and the scrawny boy secretly believes aliens abducted his dad. When one of the conspiracy newsletters that Sam reads runs a story about a race of aliens called Mogadorians intent on taking over Earth, Henri decides to investigate. John worries when Henri fails to return from a meeting he had with the newsletter's authors and enlists Sam's help to find him.

John enters the house Henri said he'd be visiting, while Sam watches a man who lives there. John threatens another resident of the home to tell him where Henri is being kept and eventually finds his Keeper tied to a chair in the basement. Before they can escape, John must use his supernatural abilities to save Sam. He questions one of Henri's captors and learns that he received a call from someone with information about the Mogadorians and the numbered children. The man was never heard from again. The contact number he'd left with them had been disconnected. The day after they ran the story in their newsletter, three strangers came to the house, threatening their lives and mentally torturing them to keep them from running any more of the story.

The Mogadorians arrive, but John uses his supernatural abilities to get himself, Henri and Sam away before the Mogadorians can attack them. Henri and John confide the truth of who they are to Sam, who promises to keep everything a secret and to help in any way he can.

Although worried that the Mogadorians are close, Henri agrees not to leave Ohio so John can continue in school. His relationship with Sarah intensifies, and he continues to work on developing his powers. He is surprised when Mark invites him and Sam to a party at his house. The party gets out of hand, and the house catches on fire when someone accidently knocks over a candle. Everyone gets out safely except for Sarah and the family's two dogs. John, who is immune to fire, sneaks back into the house and helps them escape. Unfortunately, someone has witnessed the rescue. A mysterious note is faxed to the school for John, asking if he is Number Four. Someone also posts the story and a video of the rescue on the Internet. John refuses to escape with Henri until he makes sure Sarah is safe from the Mogadorians. He finds her alone in the school's darkroom after hours. Before he can leave, Mogadorian scouts arrive. As John and Sarah try to sneak out of the school, they are caught. At first John believes it is a Mogadorian who has caught them, but he discovers it is actually Number Six, a girl a few years older than him, who has tracked him down in order for them to fight their enemies. Henri and Mark also arrive at the school, and together the five battle the evil horde that has surrounded them. In the end, Henri is killed, but the Mogadorians are temporarily defeated. John and Number Six gather their belongings and leave Ohio, along with Sam. John promises Sarah that he will one day return for her.
